I’m a watch freak. I have owned a Seiko Seiko SKX007, Vintage Citizen automatic, Citizen Nighthawk, currently own a 1968 Seiko original turtle 6306 and many other automatic, hand wind, quartz and eco drive movements. My point is, I know and love watches. I bought this to be my every day do everything watch. I am in the military, am in water regularly, hike, backpack, camp, you name it.
The good: eco drive is the best quartz for those who want zero maintenance for a very long time, and never want a battery to fail. Quartz is more accurate than any automatic available on the market, and hands down more durable. If you’re like me and take it in the water regularly, you may still want to refresh the gaskets every 5 years or so. Looks great, feels great on my 7.25 wrist. Screw down crown feels smooth as butter. Bezel action is perfect. Lume does the job and has citizens gorgeous tint of blue green. For 141 bucks there is no better value for accuracy, long term reliability, quality build, durability, functionality and looks. It’s THE tool watch to get for the perfect EDC watch.
Cons: as always with Citizen, mineral crystal is prone to scratching. Mine has no scratches yet but I’m ready. This doesn’t bother me as its my beater and I know what I’m getting in to. I will upgrade to a double domed AR coated sapphire crystal when I change the seals in 5 to 10 years unless I completely trash the crystal, then I’ll upgrade then. Spring bars/rubber strap: it “clicks” when you bend the strap around, kind of strange but only clicks when articulating the rubber strap way past normal wear angles. I believe it’s the spring bars but not 100%. The strap itself looks good and is more comfortable than my Seiko SKX stock strap. The ND limits chart on the strap is whatever. Kind of cheesy in my personal opinion. I’m going to look for an aftermarket rubber strap, but I am aiming to turn this into the absolute perfect watch for myself. The rubber strap will be perfect for 99 percent of buyers. Bottom line: if you think you might like the watch, you’ll love it.
Pen Name in this space –
I don’t often review products, but this watch is worthy of my time.
I’ve worn divers watches as an “everyday” watch since ’68 when the jungle, heat, humidity and monsoon rain in Viet Nam ate up two lesser offerings to the clock gods in less than a month. That first divers watch sold me on the value of a simple analog watch with big, easily read hands, with passive illumination that these 70 year old eyes can see in the middle of the night without glasses.
By “everyday” watch, I mean a watch that I rarely remove whether I’m showering, sleeping, working on the property, fussing with equipment, fishing including cleaning the days catch or gutting a fresh killed deer ( I’ve lost a couple of decent watches over the years by forgetting to put them back on after those type of activities).
My last divers watch started losing time even after the battery was replaced (twice). I would have replaced the 5 year old watch with the same make and model as it was cheap enough even though it’s obvious they don’t keep on ticking like they used to, but that company doesn’t make that style any more. I did buy a different watch from the maker but just flat out didn’t like it.
So now, we come to this watch. It’s a bit more expensive than I would normally spend on my everyday watch, but after researching all the offerings out there, this was my choice…The price is right for a dive watch of this quality.
The watch is the right size. I’m 6’1″ and 215 lbs with probably average sized wrists and it looks good on.
The one way bezel has no projections that can get bumped to change your setting.
The hands are large and easy to read.
The lume is bright enough for me to tell the time at oh-dark-thirty even after several hours of sleep, but that may be a result of the habit of charging the lume with the mini-mag flashlight I keep on my nightstand just before turning out the lights.
The crown at 4 o’clock is a major plus as I no longer have the crown digging into my wrist when my hand is in an awkward position.
Not requiring a battery is/was a major selling point for me…no added expense of the cost of a battery or installation fee or no worrying about the seal leaking is worth the piece of mind.
I’ve only had the watch for 11 days and I initially set it via the atomic clock…when I changed to standard time today, I noticed the watch had not deviated one iota from the setting…no loss, no gain. I’m pretty anal about accuracy on my watches…this guy beats all the others, including two of the famous Swiss made dress watches I own.
Only two minor points that affect my viewpoint about this watch. The date window is very small and hard to read, but I generally don’t use the date on my watches; shoot, I know what day it is.
The watch strap is not exactly to my liking…it will fit over a wet suit but it’s just a little too stiff for my tastes and though not a fault of the manufacturer (more the fault of my exact wrist size), it’s too tight on the hole where the watch doesn’t slip around and too loose on the next keeper hole. I did elongate the too tight hole, but I’ll be changing to a NATO band. By the way, the no decompression limits printed on the band don’t match what the charts or a dive computer says…I wouldn’t use it.
This is not a watch with a lot of bells and whistles, but a functional, easy to read (day or night), and accurate timepiece that looks good and fits a pretty active lifestyle. I no longer dive or snorkel but if I did, I wouldn’t hesitate using this watch.
If you want/need a watch to measure lap/split times, to wake you up, to remind you when to take a drink, has a lot of buttons, yadda, yadda look for something else.
Whose That Guy –
I love automatic watches. . . but sometimes it is nice to have a quartz watch that is always set and on time to quickly throw on and go. For me that watch was always a Casio G-Shock, but sometimes the G-Shock is just not dressy enough for the outfit. I like the look of this watch. . . the stainless steel case, the rubber strap and loved the idea of it being quartz but never needing a battery replacement. After about a year of contemplating the purchase Amazon had a great sale on it for Valentine’s Day and I bought it. I am so happy with the purchase. This watch really has no negatives in my opinion. It has good lume (blueish tint see video), is built very solid, on mine the second hand lands directly on the markers, and it looks and feels great on the wrist. Finally a dive watch that is a normal size (42mm). I will say this, if you have smaller wrists like me it is great. If you have large wrists you might find this watch to be a little on the small side. All and all I am very happy, especially for the price. It is my weekend wearer. I loaded a video but it is rather large so Amazon might reduce the quality. If you search on YouTube you can find the same video in higher resolution. I hope this review helps.
I’m not going to write some detailed review as there are plenty of other sources for that info. What I will do is mention a few things that some Amazon shoppers may be interested in.
First – I purchased this on April 15/2019 and received a serial number with an October 2018 manufactured date. That’s pretty good so you shouldn’t have any worries about old stock here.
Second – Every thing out of the box was bang on. The minute/hour hands are on point and the second hand is hitting every mark. The bezel is also very solid. I have no wiggle on mine like some reviews state. I am extremely happy with the build of this watch.
Third – While the lume is very bright and much better than most other watches I’ve seen it doesn’t last nearly as long as some people will have you believe. I have no idea how some people can claim it lasts into the middle of the night. It does not.
Fourth – Mine came in a very nice small circular type storage box. Not the scuba tank like some reviews say. Not sure if that was an older packaging or if it’s limited to certain regions but you will not receive that here. Still though, the storage box it comes in is actually rather nice and small making it great for storage when not in use. This was actually a pleasant surprise for me as it’s not just some cheap ugly throw-away box. It looks very nice and could go on a dresser for display.
That’s about it. This is a fantastic watch. Very accurate and looks fantastic. Love it.
Amazon photos do not do this watch justice. Google YouTube videos and see for yourself how beautiful this is in person. ISO-certified, so you’re getting different designs for each hand, great lume, etc. Eco-drive so you don’t need to change the battery, etc. The 60-click bezel is better than the usual 120-clicks you get – feels solid with each turn. Love the orange minute dial and the date at the 4 o’clock position. Screw down crown has smooth action. Strap is great too, but I swapped it for a NATO. If you’re looking for a reliable, gorgeous quartz movement without needing to change the battery, this is a must have for your collection.

Purchased this product almost a month ago. At first the packing. It was a huge box wrapped by some protective layer. Inside that box was lying a scuba tank which is worth seeing. Inside that tank, was the watch.
Next the watch. You will be amazed to see the beauty of it. The polished stainless steel case, the glossy crown with the Promaster emblem in it, the highly glossy outline of the index markers will mesmerize you. The hands are beautiful with the hour hand outlined by glossy stainless steel, minute hand with vibrant orange outline, and the second hand is a thin white hand with a lume at the tip. The hour & minute hands are wide enough to see the time at any lighting condition. The dial is the deep navy blue colour (my favourite colour) on which the index marks & the hands really pop out. The bezel is also of deep navy blue colour. The strap is also navy blue colour which you may change if you donot like rubber strap.
Now come to the time keeping capability of the watch. Its running 2 seconds late after 24 days. That means -3 seconds per month which is highly satisfied as you have to adjust time once in a year.
Next the charging. The charging is quite fast. I opened the packing at night & after some exposure to the table lamp, it started running & I was amazed to see it running when I woke up in the morning though in a 2 seconds interval. After exposing it beside the window after about 2 hours, it began to tick in 1 second interval.
Now the most striking feature of this watch – lume. Its awesome. You cannot understand this feature at the daytime, but at night, even in the middle of night, after 5 hours of last exposure to light, you can clearly see the glowing hands & markers with the naked eye (generally i use specs for reading & writing but to see timing in this watch, I donot use specs, it is so prominent). I was searching such feature in a watch for a long time & it is completely fulfilled by this watch. I really love it.
Now the cons. The date window is really small though you can somehow manage to see it. the day is missing. The dial is quite large for small to medium wrists. The strap is of rubber.
Final verdict : Every watch in this world has some pros & cons. It has also some. But despite it’s cons, you should go for this watch without any hesitation as the appearance of the watch with deep navy blue dial & luminous hands & markers is great, the visibility of the hands is extraordinary, the lume is amazing with about -3 seconds variation per month. Its a must have watch.
Addition after 7 months : it is running 8 secs late i.e., almost 1 sec per month. excellent.
