I haven’t been much of a watch connoisseur over the years, although that is starting to change. Whereas I used to wear Fossil exclusively, and an Apple Watch now, I am starting to appreciate more classy, elegant timepiece expressions and will no doubt start exploring other artisans as time goes on. However, before I started down that journey I wanted to begin with a beautiful yet reasonably priced watched: enter this Bulova Marine Star. While the size and the overall “bling” factor took some getting used to, I think it’s a rather tasteful dress watch that is elegant and a true standout. The Marine Star is about as expressive as I want my watch to be, especially since I don’t want any piece of jewelry I wear to resemble the cheap junk peddled at mall kiosks. However, I think Bulova did a good job designing the watch to be noticed but in an appreciative manner, not in a repulsive manner. The watch itself has the feel of quality (band is made in China, timepiece made in Japan) and it fits well now that I took 3 links out. I’m happy with this watch, especially at the price I purchased it for.

First, this is one gorgeous watch. The blue and gold motif with the white markers and hands is stunning. This is not a small watch at all, and it does look big on my 7 1/2 inch arm. I synchronized the watch to the US Naval Observatory’s Atomic Clock and it has not lost nor gained a fraction of a second since. It’s rated as a dive watch down to 200 meters, and it has a screw-down crown to keep it sealed. The stainless steel band is relatively easy to adjust if you have the knowledge and tools (it uses split pins, not screws, to hold the links together.) This is about as good a watch as you could ask for at the price. With a 262 KHz quartz movement, its hard to say how long it will last, but Bulova has a great reputation for innovation and build quality, and at my age, it’ll last longer than I will!

I will second the reviews here on Amazon that say this watch is even more beautiful “in person” than in the pictures, it really has to be seen up close to be appreciated! The rose-gold tone with the blue dial is a gorgeous color combination, and the gold highlights in the band are very classy. I will offer a caution in that the watch is large at 45mm in diameter, and heavy. I have a 7-3/4″ wrist and it’s about as large a watch as I’m comfortable with. If you have smaller wrists, this might be a bit too much in both size and weight. The date is at the 6-o’clock position and is not really all that small, but it is rather narrow and the numerals are tall and thin, making it a bit difficult to read quickly. However, I wear reading glasses and have no problem with the date, so this is not a negative for me. The only reason I have not rated the watch for accuracy or water resistance is because I only just received it and so have not had any time to test those features. Bulova makes a solid product, however, and I’m sure this watch will live up to their reputation! Highly recommended!

I was hesitant to purchase this due to the incredibly low price worrying it might be a fake. I have tried on the REAL watch in the store. I figured, what the heck, give it a shot. Allow me to allay any fears. This watch is absolutely authentic Bulova. Came in the correct box with Warranty Card. Dial and back were covered in protective plastic. It is immaculate and works perfectly. Stunning watch for this price. Could not be more pleased.

Bulova has finally made their Marine Star” water resistant to 200 meters. Yay! It seemed to me a bit of a misnomer to tout seaworthiness and only have 100 meter water resistance.
This is an extremely handsome and legible face somewhat resembling that famous swiss maker’s Ocean Planet model at more than 10x this price. The 6 o’clock sub dial is the seconds readout, the main second hand is for the chronograph only. The second hand hacks, so setting to the right second is not a problem. The gold accents are very discreet and therefore an exquisite touch. The 45mm case fills up a wrist nicely without overpowering.
A couple of nits: I did remove 4 full links and the 2 half links to fit my skinny 6.5″ wrist. Might have to get a strapcode clasp with more micro adjustments if I decide to tighten the fit, but it is comfortable and not flopping around now. Lume fades quite quickly.
Update after my watch was looked at. The only thing they did was replace the battery. Seems to be fine now after another 4 months of running.
My jewelry tested the battery and said it was fine. Apprently not.
Update May 2021.
Have had it 5 months and now losing time.
Have to send it to California to have a look at it.
I pay shipping and insurance. Not happy at all.
So happy I purchased this watch. Have not had it out in the sun yet as I decided to resize it myself vs waiting to go to the jewelers. You can tell the difference in the watch appearance with and without the flash. Like having two watches.
Ready to rock it tomorrow. All dressed up and no where to go with the Pandemic. Lol
Absolutely stunning!!! The colors are way better in person.
I opened the box to this watch for the first time and in 5 minutes got my first compliment! I was told that this watch looks very high end and expensive. Yea, this Marine Star is a keeper! Absolutely beautiful. I like the heavier feel and size overall. Will need to take about 4 links out of the watch band but that’s OK. This watch came in a very timely manner (Thank you Amazon) and the box was not damaged in any way. A shame that this watch is being discontinued! Get one while you can. MS
Great watch. But very very disappointed with the packaging. Its totally worn out and looks scratchy! How am i supposed to gift that! Looks awful! Seller wont even reply to my email about it! If ur looking to gift this don’t but it!!
